Achilles tendonitis support
Achilles tendon - the strong tendon joining the muscles
in the calf of the leg to the bone of the heel. Achilles tendonitis is the
inflammation of the Achilles tendon. Stretching exercises and supports can help to
alleviate this condition.
Achilles Tedonitis
The achilles tendon is the largest human tendon. It is the most
frequently ruptured tendon. achilles tendinitis is an overuse injury that causes
inflammation of the tendon.
Things that can cause or aggravate achilles tendinitis:
- rapidly increase in running and workout activities
- hill running and stair climbing
- extra hard contraction of the calf muscles such as full blast sprint
- overuse of calf muscles when out of shape and with poor flexibility in the calf
muscles

Symptoms of Achilles tendinitis
- Mild pain after exercise or running that gradually worsens
- Pain, sometimes severe, along the tendon during or a few hours after running
- Tenderness in the morning that is about an inch and a half above the
attachment point of the achilles tendon to the heel bone
- Stiffness that generally diminishes as the tendon warms up with use
- Some swelling

Because several conditions such as a partial tendon tear and heel bursitis have
similar symptoms, you need to see your orthopaedic surgeon for a proper
diagnosis.
Treatment depends on the injury to the tendon. Consult an orthopedic
surgeon for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Definitely it doesn't hurt to give it a rest by giving up the exercise that is
causing the overuse. Lay off for a week or longer or switch to a less
stress-full exercise like swimming that is better for the Achilles tendon.
Heel pads can help relieve stress on the tendon and
supports can support the connecting muscles.
